European e-Inclusion Awards closed
The e-Inclusion Awards were established by the European Commission to raise awareness, encourage participation and recognise excellence and good practice in using ICT and digital technology to tackle social and digital exclusion across Europe.
(23/09/2008) Submissions were received from all EU Member States, and from four of the six other eligible countries (Candidate countries and Associated countries). The Awards were open to organisations in the public, business and non-profit sector or civil society. Submissions had to be entered in one of the following categories: Ageing Well, Marginalised Young People, Geographic Inclusion, Cultural Diversity, Digital Literacy, E-Accessibility and Inclusive Public Services. The award category that attracted the most applications is Digital Literacy (112 cases submitted), it is followed by the e-Accessibility category (88 cases). The remaining submissions are spread fairly evenly between the five other categories. A panel of independent experts coming from various European countries will now evaluate the submissions and select five finalists per award category. Their selection will be announced by mid-October 2008. The finalists will be invited to present their projects at the e-Inclusion Ministerial Conference from November 30 to December 2, 2008 and the overall winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony on 1st December.
