Eggs or development programme for Hungary?
Violence is not power
Announcement regarding the atrocity perpetrated in Hungary against Microsoft`s CEO
It is shocking that physical force is the response to a situation generated by economic and technological competition. A troublemaker was able to divert most of the Hungarian media`s attention from another initiative designed to support Hungary`s growth, reduce the digital divide, strengthen businesses and improve the Hungarian IT industry. The Forum of the Hungarian IT Organisations for Information Society (Inforum), the umbrella organisation of Hungarian IT organisations, the initiator of the Hungarian e-Inclusion movement attributes great significance to the fact that within the framework of the TITAN programme, companies and NGOs with the help of Steve Ballmer were able to succeed in getting the Prime Minister of Hungary and key government officials to open their doors for this programme and hopefully for other e-inclusion and IT development initiatives. The objective is to have at least one million new users join the information society by the end of 2010, mostly from disadvantaged social groups, and to see the Hungarian IT industry set off into the race in a bigger market and with more qualified experts.
Everyone is entitled to voice their own opinions. However, violence and violation of others` dignity and damaging Hungary`s reputation simply to secure media attention is unacceptable. Although we were not responsible for this, we would still like to apologise to the CEO of Microsoft and call media attention to the importance of the TITAN programme and the cause of e-Inclusion. We would also like to advise all well-meaning people that egg-throwers are not heroes; they simply cause damage.
And we do not want to live in a country without human norms or values.
