Disability and ICT Charter – have your say
The Alliance for Digital Inclusion has appointed a consortium of organisations to draft the first ‘Charter for Disabled People and ICT’, and they want to hear from you.
In late 2005, the Alliance for Digital Inclusion (ADI) appointed a consortium of organisations comprising of the RNID, the Disabled Living Foundation and Scientific Generics to draft the first ‘Charter for Disabled People and ICT’. The aim of this charter is to provide a workable benchmark for developing ICT products and services for disabled people so that they may fully participate in the information society.
The charter will be launched at a Parliamentary Reception on 15th May 2006. In anticipation of this, the ITenables website (www.itenables.info) has been created, containing a draft charter, case studies and a discussion forum.
The website aims to stimulate discussion around the charter and the issues of ICT and disability. It invites members of the Voluntary Sector, Industry and Government, as well as individuals to comment on both positive and negative experiences they have encountered when using information and communication technology (ICT). ITenables then aims to use these valuable contributions in its efforts to create ‘Charter for Disabled People and ICT’ which is truly a useful tool to promote inclusion.
