Independent Living for Elderly
Global demographic trends are leading to a rapid aging of our societies, with a sharp increase in the elderly and the very elderly. Although this constitutes a major achievement of mankind, it is also fair to state that our societies are only beginning to prepare themselves to meet the associated challenges of this development. First evidence suggests that “Information and Communication Technologies” – in combination with new services – can contribute positively to this scenario. The study on Best Practises in Europe on ICT enabled independent living for elderly shall provide a detailed analytical and information basis on today’s preparedness of European member states regarding above stated challenges. Eventually country reports covering key actors, national strategies and legal frameworks in all EU 25 member states will be published.
